Step up your home’s style – with your staircase!
Stairs. Functional, yes. But fashionable?
They could be.
It goes without saying that stairs serve a practical purpose and are essential for any home spanning more than one level. But, despite the fact that they form a central part of most properties, they are frequently overlooked.
At Square 1 Balustrades, we are experts in enhancing the look and practicality of stairways. And here we share a few simple ways you can add personality and design to yours.
Easy ways to restyle your stairs:
- Rip up the carpet
Be honest how long has that carpet been down? Switching it for something new could be just the change your staircase is crying out for. Replace with a carpet in a different colour, swap for a vibrant, patterned stair runner or bare all and sand down your boards for a more modern, industrial feel.
- Add plants
If you’re working to a budget…or a fan of house plants…then this is the style fix for you. Try arranging house plants carefully up your stairs. Not only does this provide an uplifting pop of colour, it also adds interest and charm, and it’s an easy, low-cost way to get a fresh new look. Just be careful to place plants right at the side of the steps, so you’re not in any danger of tripping over them and hurting yourself.
Not green-fingered? You can cheat. There’s a huge range of fake indoor plants to choose from these days. They look really effective, and no one will ever spot the difference (your secret’s safe with us).
- Change your balustrade system
Want to really make a style statement? Then how about changing your staircase balustrade system. With both contemporary and classic designs available, you can choose from steel and wire rope systems right through to frameless glass options to give a ‘barely there’ look and maximise the flow of natural light through your property.
- Add lighting
Not only can changing the balustrades open up your property and enhance the look and feel of your stairs, but they can also improve lighting too. How so? Well by using glass or wire as opposed to more traditional balustrades systems such as wood, you allow more light to pass through freely.
Don’t forget you can use your handrails to add ambience and effect too, with clever LED handrail lighting systems also available. Energy-efficient, they not only make a great staircase safety feature, but they add a real design flourish too.
