Is it time for a change?
Spring is the season we associate with new life and hope. It’s a time to brush ourselves off and start again – and never has that felt more needed than now.
After 12 months of enduring heavy restrictions on our day-to-day lives, we are more ready than ever to throw open windows, clean out clutter and spruce our homes in readiness for the promise of good times ahead.
How to hit refresh
- Let light in
Whilst things are slowly regaining a sense of normality, many people are still working from home, spending time indoors and cooped up in front of a screen. So as the days begin to stretch out it’s important to try and make the most of the increased daylight.
Draw the curtains right back, try to position your working station near a window if possible, and think about how you can increase the flow of natural light through your home. Reflective mirrors and using plenty of glass can all make a big difference. For example, swapping solid doors for glass or changing wooden stairs for a glass balustrade system, can revolutionise the look, feel and light levels in your home.
- Get fresh
It’s the season of vibrant blooms, with daffodils and tulips springing up everywhere. Pop some in a vase, an old jug or an empty jar or milk bottle, dot about the home and let the spring vibes flow.
- Go green
Cut flowers not for you or prefer something more permanent? Then try adding a few house plants instead. Back in vogue, house plants not only look good, they also help to freshen the air by filtering out pollutants and bring colour and style to your home.
- Add colour
Spring makes us think of bright yellows (this year’s go-to shade), and of all things fresh and colourful. Adding vibrancy to your home needn’t be a big deal – vivid ornaments, a new picture or colourful rug can all do the job.
- Create a focal point
Want to add more interest to your home? How about creating a feature wall? A fashionable option, they are ideal if you’re struggling to find the time (or the inclination!) to embark on a full redecorate. Simply pick one wall and paint it a different colour or cover it with decorative wallpaper and, voila, you’re done.
Another easy way to create a focal point is to fit a Juliet balcony. Not only do these create a stunning focus in a room, they also allow you to enjoy uninterrupted views and maximise on those all-important natural light levels.
- Mix it up
Bored? Then try moving things around to change the look and feel of individual rooms. This could be little items like your ornaments and frames, or a full shift of furniture to repurpose space – does your lounge have to be your lounge or could it be your dining room? Think outside of the box and have fun trying out new positions to see what works and what doesn’t.
- Add interest
If on the whole you’re pretty happy with the way things look…just a little bored…try tweaking a few key elements. New curtains, reupholstering a favourite chair or adding a feature lamp can all revive your space and help to create new interest.
